I start by passing out a vocabulary sheet in which students have the page number and the vocabulary word. The Night Diary Veera Hiranandani: Vocabulary She documents her and her family’s dangerous travels from Pakistan in a diary that is dedicated to her mother. As a half-Muslim, half-Hindu girl she is unsure of where she stands. Nisha has already lost her mom at her birth and now she is in danger of losing her own life, or the lives of her brother and father. The story is told through this 12-year old’s eyes where she watches all that comes with the British withdrawing from a country, like violence.
